News Letter readers have been doing their bit to help children with terminal or serious illnesses visit Santa in Lapland.

We made a donation to Sainsbury’s chosen charity for the year, the Northern Ireland Children to Lapland Trust, from money raised through our sale of papers at Sainsbury’s in a promotion earlier this year.

We walked, we raised so they can Fly: NI Children to Lapland Trust.

Jimmy Calvin and Raymond Pollock from the local NI Children to Lapland Trust came to school today to collect a cheque for £1200, raised by the pupils of Dominican in the sponsored walk.

One of the new local charities the school agreed to help this year was the NI Children to Lapland Trust. This voluntary group aim to bring a number of special children to “see Santa” in December  each year in where else but Lapland.

Jimmy explained at today’s assembly that, due to the extreme conditions some of these children face, the costs of this trip are very high at £800 per child.

More than 100 of these “most in need children” will travel this year to Lapland and Jimmy explained how the pupils of Dominican College should feel proud that their efforts will make a difference to these young lives.

Jimmy and Raymond are pictured today receiving their cheque with Dr Cummings and the Head boy, Jack Pothecary and the Head Girl, Rachel McLaughlin.

On Friday, all of our pupils attended a special Assembly when Jack and Fiona from the Northern Ireland’s Children to Lapland Trust spoke to everyone about this charity. The children were shown a po…werpoint presentation which told them all about the charity.

This year the charity has been selected as our nominated charity with a percentage of the proceeds from the school’s annual sponsored spell donated, which will take place in June.

Fiona and Jack will come back to visit the school as special guests at prizegiving when they will be presented with a cheque for the charity.See more
